Life Begins in 10 years
I’ve always wondered how it would feel to be thirty. I never thought that it would come so soon. I remember seeing colleagues who were aged 27 when I was 21 and I felt like they were old and that they seemed established or that they knew so much… Now that I am here, I guess I was wrong.
My brother wanted to comfort me (or just tease me) and made me watch that episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. where they all turned 30.
This screenshot was taken from FRIENDS season 7 episode 14. In this episode, it proved to show that being 30 doesn’t mean maturity. I could easily relate to Rachel when she felt that she should have established herself by this age. For sure, I am far from it. But then, it also depends on what you want to achieve in life. Phoebe felt that she was okay because she had simple aspirations. Joey, being Joey, just kept asking God WHY?
I had 2 buffets the day I turned thirty. I’m not sure if it was to celebrate or to eat my sorrows away. (*kidding*) I was happy. I got to spend time with my family and friends that day and I found contentment in merely being able to celebrate life and the goodness of God.
At this age, I’ve found who my real friends are, and what my aspirations in life are, who I want to be. I’ve found that birthdays aren’t about presents, neither about the kind of party you have. I’ve realized that there is more fulfillment in blessing others than hoping to be blessed and being disappointed at the end of the day. I praise God that my eyes and heart are open to such reality and that I am no longer that stuck up spoiled little lady that I was.
10 years to go, before life truly begins, as they say. Three decades of existence has taught me so much. And although I have gotten older, I am still never growing up. I will always choose to be on the fun side of life, to have new adventures as much as I can and have an ever teachable heart. For one can never be too old to learn new tricks. May I always remember that “what is essential is invisible to the eye.” and may my heart, be as my name, “consecrated to God,” always.
